Application Instructions

1. Dates and Deadlines

Thank you for your interest in the Master of Arts in Social Work as a Human Rights Profession (MA-SWHR). The program lasts four semesters, starting in September 2017 ending in September 2019.

For the academic year 2017/2018, we will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis.

The application period starts October 1, 2016 and will end on:

         *April 15, 2017 for visa applicants;

         *May 15, 2017 for all other applicants

Early Application Deadline I: November 30, 2016 (for admission decisions by January 2017) 

Early Application Deadline II: February 15, 2017 (for admission decisions by April 2017)


*As many of our applicants require a student visa or/and are intending to apply for a scholarship, we highly encourage you to submit all the required documents, including the online application form in the suggested timeframe stated above. We would like to remind ALL our applicants that the earlier you apply, the sooner we can provide you with a possible admission answer.


2. Selection Criteria

The Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences welcomes students from all countries. Students are selected without regard to sex, ethnicity, religion, or national origin. All applications for admission to the M.A. program are evaluated by the Admission Committee. The application will only be considered if the completed application has been submitted before the respective deadlines.


3. Admission Requirements and Supporting Documents

Please be aware that the application consists of 2 steps.

First step: Please fill out the online application form

Second step: Please submit the following documents via e-mail to!

Please send digital copies, we are not going to accept any hard copies!

Please send your documents as one single PDF file!


The supporting documents have to include:

  • Letter of Motivation (2 pages, 1.5 spacing)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Final Certificate of Undergraduate Studies and Transcript of Records (to be validated upon arrival! Do NOT include high school or secondary school certificates)
  • 2 Letters of Evaluation/Recommendation from past or current employers and/or academic references
  • Certificate(s) that attest at least one year of practical experience in a field related to social work or human rights
