Early Childhood Education (Job integrated study programme)

The vocationally-integrated format for the course of studies Early Childhood Education enables already-employed pedagogues and other professionals to obtain advanced qualification at an academic level. The degree course runs parallel to their professional employment. Certain study activities are linked directly with the workplace and thus study credit points can be earned at the workplace. The course contents are specially adapted to the needs of students with work experience. They reflect and expand their existing knowledge and experience, involve the latest scientific findings of early childhood education and its related disciplines, and acquire competencies in research. Attendance phases, self-learning phases and practical phases closely linked to the curricula alternate every semester.

 

The contents of the vocationally-integrated degree course "Early Childhood Education" (students combine their work in practice and study at the university) are divided into eight study areas:  Discipline foundations, Profession-oriented practice and research methods, Social and political framework conditions of early childhood education and care, Early childhood education and didactics, Body and health, Early childhood education and care institutions, Practice reflection and bachelor thesis.

There is a choice between focussing on "Leadership and pedagogy in early childhood" or "Leadership and management".

 

Admission requirement(s)

Applicants with a university entrance qualification, i.e. a secondary school leaving certificate (Abitur) as qualification for entrance to a university or university of applied sciences or any other statutory entrance qualification are admitted for studies for each winter semester. In addition, depending upon their previous individual education, the applicants are required to provide proof of pedagogical work experience.

 

Admission with prior pedagogical training

Applicants who have a pedagogical vocational training qualification (Berufsausbildung) or a pedagogical degree are additionally required to provide proof of pedagogical work experience of six months' full-time employment (commensurately longer for part-time employment) in a pedagogical institution as well as existing pedagogical employment of at least 15 hours per week in a pedagogical institution.

 

Admission without prior pedagogical training

Applicants without a pedagogical vocational training qualification (Berufsausbildung) or pedagogical degree are additionally required to provide proof of pedagogical work experience of at least two years' full-time employment (commensurately longer for part-time employment) in a pedagogical institution as well as existing pedagogical employment of at least 15 hours per week in a pedagogical institution.

 

The period for applications runs from 01.12. to 15.01.
