Participatory Action Research (PAR) is a method of social investigation of problems that aims to contribute to the Empowerment of oppressed people and aims to serve as a tool for social change. Participation of the people involved (regardless of their backgrounds) is crucial for a PAR process, as they are seen as the main actors in identifying, naming, analysing and solving problems of their communities. PAR also concentrates on an action, as part of the research process that aims to actually change the life of the community under research. This Seminar will provide an overview of the concept of PAR and share experiences of PAR practice, which predominantly come from countries of the Global south and then discuss a the transferability of PAR to realities in West Europe.
