The course is a general English course designed to develop students’ speaking and writing skills as well as to improve their reading and listening skills at B1 level. Students who have completed the class "Englisch Brückenkurs" and students who received a recommendation of level B1 on the placement test may enrol.
Attention to important grammar points at this level, along with indicators of language and vocabulary that can take students to a higher level will also be covered. Various resources for self-study will also help students to identify their own personal strengths and weaknesses in areas of grammar.
Lessons are communicative and revolve around a wide range of topics based on authentic audio-visual and reading material. Some topics we explore come from popular culture, health, education, politics, psychology and society. We discuss students' interests and motivations for learning English in the first meeting to ensure the course is based on student needs.
This is an online course meeting on Moodle every week. We will engage in whole class discussion, small group and partner work in breakout rooms, and feedback/response to the week's activities. Students will then have self-study activities to prepare for the following week. These are generally independent activities, such a reading or listening task, which can be worked on as homework at students' own time and pace before the next class.
There is a 90-minute, online exam at the end of the semester that is graded pass/fail.
