General Information
Description
This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental theories, techniques, and applications of counselling. The focus will be on developing practical skills and theoretical understanding necessary for effective counselling in social work contexts. Particular emphasis will be placed on both traditional counselling methods and the growing field of online consultation.
Expectations and Goals
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Understand the core principles, approaches, and techniques of counselling.
- Apply counselling techniques in face-to-face and online environments.
- Demonstrate ethical and professional behaviour in counselling settings.
- Reflect critically on their own personal development as future counsellors.
- Evaluate and provide constructive feedback on the counselling techniques used by peers.

Testing and Evaluation (Grading)
This course is assessed on a Pass-Fail basis. The following options are available for students to choose from for their final evaluation:
1- Video Project:
- Create a video of a simulated counselling session showcasing your application of counselling techniques.
2- Taking Part in in-class roleplays at least 3 times:
3- Making a presentation:
- Making a reflective presentation on your personal growth as a future counsellor, with insights gained from course readings and activities.
Instructor Expectations and Course Participation
The instructor highly values personal reflection and active participation. Students are encouraged to contribute to discussions and engage with both the theoretical content and practical activities, disregarding their level of English. We are not here to evaluate and judge your language level.
