The first-year student survey sheds light on students' choice of degree course, satisfaction with their studies and living conditions after the first semester.
In terms of reasons for choosing a degree course , prospective students primarily use social contacts and the internet to find information, while social media are hardly relevant. The decisive factors for choosing a degree course are primarily subject interest and personal development, followed by career aspects and specific career aspirations. The decision in favor of ASH Berlin is largely based on the specific range of subjects, the profile focus, the pronounced practical orientation and the university's reputation.
The information and orientation phase is predominantly rated positively, particularly with regard to the course content and career prospects. The orientation days (O-days) are well received, with course-specific information considered particularly useful.
Advice and services, including the application process and website information, are rated as good by the majority. Individual advice and support from lecturers have high satisfaction and usage rates.
The first semester is perceived positively. Course content and the digital provision of materials (Moodle, LSF) receive very good ratings. The technical infrastructure is perceived as positive overall.
Student satisfaction is high: over 60% of respondents are very confident in their choice of degree course and are not considering dropping out. Students are satisfied with the degree courses, the university and their contacts with fellow students and lecturers. However, the Marzahn-Hellersdorf location polarizes and shows a very heterogeneous opinion.
In terms of individual living conditions, the greatest challenge is the compatibility of studying and full-time employment. Other negative factors are travel times, finding accommodation and funding difficulties.
