Research, Health New doctoral program "New Public Health" and New Public Health Summer School 2025

Offers young scientists in the field of public health structured doctoral support

The new doctoral program "New Public Health" offers young scientists in the field of public health structured doctoral support. It creates an interdisciplinary research environment in which independent academic work is combined with targeted training and supervision.

The doctoral college, funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation, aims to scientifically analyze social and health inequalities and reduce them in practice. It is based on the New Public Health approach and focuses on the question of how living conditions can be designed in such a way that they promote health and enable participation - especially for disadvantaged population groups.

The focus is on the social, political, economic and ecological conditions under which health develops - across the entire life course. The research group investigates the structural causes of inequality and develops interdisciplinary, participatory and user-oriented approaches to health promotion in everyday life and in the living environment. Current social challenges such as the pandemic, climate change and digital transformation are taken into account, as are issues of social cohesion and democratic participation.

The aim is future-oriented public health research that not only explains why health inequalities exist, but also shows how they can be overcome - scientifically sound, practical and socially just.

Application deadline for a scholarship in the doctoral program "New Public Health": 02.11.2025

The framework conditions of the scholarship (duration, funding amount, criteria, etc.) can be found on the website of the Hans Böckler Foundation.
