Today, Prof. Dr. Theda Borde, long-standing Professor of Social Medicine and former Rector of the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin, was awarded the Salomon Neumann Medal of the German Society for Social Medicine and Prevention (DGSMP). The award ceremony took place at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin as part of the 60th DGSMP Congress. The laudatory speech was held by Prof. Dr. Oliver Razum.
With this award, the DGSMP honors Theda Borde's decades of work for public health, participation and health equity. Borde held the Chair of Social Medicine at ASH Berlin until 2024 and shaped the university as Rector from 2010 to 2014. Beyond ASH Berlin, she provided significant impetus nationwide, including the founding of the Berlin School of Public Health, the establishment of the Berlin Community Interpreting Service, the promotion of health care for migrants and the project management of the Alliance for Equal Opportunities in Health Care "Empowerment for Diversity". She has also been involved in central public health networks for many years, for example in the Future Forum Public Health, in the DFG research group on public health and on the board of Gesundheit Berlin-Brandenburg.
ASH Berlin warmly congratulates Prof. Dr. Theda Borde on this award and pays tribute to her outstanding life's work, which has left a trailblazing mark on the science and practice of social medicine far beyond the university.
