On February 16, 2024, the higher education agreements for the next five years 2024 to 2028 were signed by Science Senator Dr. Ina Czyborra and the presidents and rectors of Berlin's universities and colleges during a ceremony in the Säulensaal of the Rotes Rathaus.

The higher education agreements already approved by the Berlin Senate and the Berlin House of Representatives create reliable prospects for the universities in financially difficult times. Over the next five years, the basic funding of the universities will increase by five percent annually, which in absolute figures is an increase from a total of around 1.52 billion euros to a good 1.85 billion euros. This is unique in the nationwide university landscape.

Science Senator Dr. Ina Czyborra: "The agreements form the basis for the development and direction of the sciences in Berlin. Especially in times of tight budgets, the guaranteed increase in basic funding by five percent annually is an important signal. This will provide the universities with the necessary resources to fulfill their tasks and develop further. With the new university contracts, we will succeed in continuing to establish Berlin as one of the leading science and research locations in Europe."
