Abstract:
The research network “Rethinking Critical Masculinity Studies” aims to highlight the epistemological benefits of international debates for social and cultural masculinity studies in German-speaking countries, to structurally strengthen their perspective, and to demonstrate their potential for understanding current social challenges. The network brings together scholars from social and cultural science disciplines such as sociology, social work, education, psychology, cultural anthropology, ethnology, political science, media studies, and history in order to discuss current theoretical and methodological questions and social issues in a multidisciplinary yet focused manner. The network's work includes determining the current position of critical masculinity research within social science debates, reflecting on and further developing new theoretical and methodological impulses, and exploring masculinities in areas of society that are currently significant.
Six workshops will be held to reflect on theoretical and methodological foundations and discuss key social issues in the context of concepts of masculinity. The network's work is relevant to various target groups in academia, practice, and society and will be continuously made publicly visible and accessible. The results will be disseminated through publications, symposiums, and open educational resources, among other means.
