Visa information

Visa candidates should note for their time of application that processing a required student visa application at the German authorities and embassies usually takes three months or longer.

Applicants with the following nationalities do not need a visa to enter Germany and/or, if necessary, can process the student visa permit upon arrival:

EU: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden.

Non-EU: Andorra, Australia, Brazil, Canada, El Salvador, Honduras, Israel, Japan, South Korea, San Marino, Switzerland, USA, New Zealand, UK (inform yourself about the current situation after Brexit)

Citizens of Andorra, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Monaco and San Marino do not need an entry visa, if they do not intend to take up gainful employment prior to and after studying. However all non-EU students should check if you need a blocked bank account!

Please check the website of the German Embassy in your country for current visa information.

Please be aware that, for visa application purposes, certain German embassies (such as those in Pakistan, India, or Turkey) may require applicants to provide proof of full payment of the tuition fees for the first, or even the first two, semesters prior to the issuance of a visa.
