Faculty I: Social Work
Department I comprises the Social Work teaching unit with two Bachelor's and two Master's degree programs. The department has a total of 51 structural professorships and around 2,800 students (as of winter semester 2024/25).
Teaching, studies and research at the department are closely linked to the development of modern social work and social reform. The department comprises the largest degree programs at ASH Berlin as well as the subjects with which the university is most closely associated in the public eye.
The department is headed by the dean, who is supported in his or her work by the deputy dean (vice dean), the management and the department administration. The department is the basic organizational unit of the university. In the future, all tasks relating to the proper implementation of studies and teaching will be combined here.
The highest body of the faculty is the faculty council. Representatives of university lecturers, students, academic staff and technical, service and administrative staff sit on this body. The Education Commission, which advises the Faculty Council on matters relating to teaching and studies and in which students make up half of the seats, is required by law.
