2. Purpose of Data Processing
As part of the Teaching Award for Innovative Teaching 2026, personal data are processed for the purpose of conducting the nomination, selection, and award procedure.
This includes in particular:
- Receiving and managing nominations submitted by students
- Organising the selection procedure
- Conducting the jury evaluation
- Communication related to the procedure (e.g. follow-up questions)
- Documentation and follow-up of the teaching award
- Contacting participants regarding involvement in the Day of Teaching
3. Legal Basis for Processing
The processing of personal data is carried out on the basis of:
- For conducting the procedure: Article 6(1)(e) UK GDPR / GDPR (performance of a task carried out in the public interest) in conjunction with Section 6(1) BerlHG and the university’s statutory duties relating to quality assurance in teaching and studies
- For contacting individuals regarding participation in the Day of Teaching: Article 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent)
4. Categories of Data Processed
The following data may be processed as part of the nomination and selection procedure:
a) Data of nominating persons
- Name (automatically collected via Moodle)
- Email address (automatically collected via Moodle)
- Degree programme / department
- Group information (if the nomination is submitted collectively)
b) Data relating to teaching staff
- Title of the course/module
- Name of the lecturer or teaching team
- Information on delivery (semester, format, degree programme, department)
- Content of students’ justifications and evaluations
- Free-text information regarding teaching and learning experiences
- Suggestions for the further development of teaching
5. Recipients of the Data
Within the university, only those offices that require access to personal data for the purpose of conducting the teaching award procedure will have access to such data, in particular:
- the Teaching Award organisation team (QME Studies & Teaching)
- the jury appointed for the procedure (in anonymised form)
No data will be disclosed to third parties outside the teaching award procedure.
6. Storage Period
The data collected as part of the teaching award procedure will be stored until the procedure has been completed. Subsequently, the data will be deleted or anonymised.
7. Rights of Data Subjects
Within the framework of the applicable legal provisions, data subjects have the right to:
- obtain information about the personal data stored concerning them
- rectification of inaccurate data
- erasure of personal data
- restriction of processing
- data portability
- object to the processing of their data
8. Withdrawal of Consent
Where processing is based on the consent of the data subject (e.g. for contacting participants), such consent may be withdrawn at any time with future effect.
The lawfulness of processing carried out prior to the withdrawal remains unaffected.
9. Obligation to Provide Data
The provision of personal data is voluntary.
