Gender 3.0 at school

Challenges and Requirements in Teacher Education to Include Gender Diversity, with Special Consideration of the 3rd Civil Status 'Divers'

Project duration: 01/05/2021 - 30/04/2026

Principal investigator (of the overall  project): Junior-Prof. Dr. Tamas Fütty (Europa Universität Flensburg)

Principal investigator (at ASH Berlin): Prof. Dr. Jutta Hartmann

Project staff: Dr. Mart Busche, Ayla Fedorchenko, Sannig-Ben Dehler

Abstract:
Since 2019, the 3rd civil status 'divers' exists in Germany. How can educational institutions react appropriately? What experiences do trans*, inter*, non-binary, asexual and other pupils beyond the gender norm have at school and what needs do they have? What can professional pedagogical action look like that assumes a diversity of gender lifestyles and takes intersectional educational barriers into account? How can educational professionals be appropriately qualified to think and act in a gender-reflective way?

The project, which is funded by the BMBF's young researchers programme, uses a mixed-method approach to analyze the connection between gender diversity, school and equal participation in education. In cooperation with the ASH Berlin (2021-2023), the focus is on theoretical sensitization to the tensions that characterize professional action and which need to be reflected on with regard to the empirical research design and the conception of (high) school practice.
