Open Research
Research is increasingly characterized by collaboration, transparency, and sustainability. In this integral transformation driven by digital communication, Open Research represents the further development of Open Access in the context of Open Science: Following the principle of "as open as possible, as closed as necessary," openness is increasingly shaping all areas of the research process. While the primary focus used to be on Open Access to publications, Open Research now broadens the perspective: research data, methods, software, educational resources, and publications should be freely available and reusable for everyone. However, the extent to which such openness is possible must always be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

What is Open Access?
Sharing and reusing scientific publications is the idea behind Open Access. All people worldwide should be able to participate in the results of publicly funded research without financial, technical or legal barriers. Scientific publications that are openly accessible and can be freely read, printed, copied, distributed, searched or otherwise used, contribute to greater visibility and an accelerated dissemination of research results. This contributes to the development of academic knowledge, to the use and reuse of research results in education and to their use by the public and experts.
