Understanding residence rights - opening up prospects for staying!

In the socio-political discourse, people seeking protection are increasingly portrayed as a threat to internal security rather than as individuals with individual rights. In this context, fundamental rights such as the right to asylum are being questioned more and more openly. As the ASH Pre-Study Program and Newcomer Office Team, we accompany international and refugee students as well as prospective students and would like to contribute to ensuring that as many students in the SAGE professions and employees of ASH Berlin as possible have the opportunity to learn about the rights of people who arrive in Germany after flight/migration processes and to be able to put them into practice.
Therefore, in cooperation with Emily Barnickel from Flüchtlingsrat Berlin e.V., we are offering a series of events on residence law issues in winter semester 2025/26:
- Third-country nationals and consolidation of residence / 23.09.25, 16:00-18:00, ASH Campus R 226
- Hardship regulations / 14.10.25; 16:00-18:00, Room: tba
- Further residence permits and exchange options / 18.11.25; 16:00-18:00, Room: tba
- Conclusion and open questions / 16.12.25; 16:00-18:00, Room: tba
Registration via Moodle (login with personal account data, registration code: newcomer)
We would be delighted if lecturers would like to take this series of events into account when planning their teaching for winter semester 2025/26 so that as many students as possible have the opportunity to take part. If you have any questions, please contact Silvia Ben Mahrez(benmahrez@ ash-berlin.eu) and Johanna Backes(johanna.backes@ ash-berlin.eu).
