What does good teaching look like? This question is answered primarily by the students themselves in ASH Berlin's "Innovative University Teaching 2026" teaching award.
As of now, students from Departments I and II can nominate courses from the undergraduate Bachelor's and consecutive Master's degree programs for the new ASH-internal "Innovative University Teaching 2026" teaching award, which they have found to be particularly successful, innovative and conducive to learning. This teaching award will make good, innovative and student-oriented teaching visible and support the further development of studies and teaching in line with the Learning and Teaching mission statement. The focus topic in 2026 is "Diversity, inclusion and anti-discrimination in studying and teaching".
The teaching prize is jointly awarded by the Vice President for Studies, Teaching and Digitalization and the Department of Quality Management and Development in Studies & Teaching (QME SuL). The procedure is carried out by QME SuL in cooperation with the departments that make up the juries.
Role of the students
Students are key players in the process: they nominate courses, contribute their perspectives to the selection process and provide impetus for the further development of teaching.
Nomination
Nominations by students are possible until 07.06.2026. After the end of the nomination phase, a multi-stage selection process will take place:
- Pre-selection of the nominated courses for a shortlist by the departmental juries
- Application phase of the lecturers selected for the shortlist
- Jury decision and selection of the award winners
- Announcement of the award-winning courses
Teaching Day & award ceremony
The award-winning courses will be presented and awarded prizes on Teaching Day on 07.12.2026. The Teaching Day offers space for exchange, networking and the joint further development of good teaching and learning practice.
