What does children's participation in ECEC look like in different parts of the world? How is it discussed and lived in different contexts and countries, what are global challenges and what can we learn from each other? This panel brings together research and perspectives on children's participation from the US Southwest, Aotearoa - New Zealand and Germany. We discuss what happens when educators share power with children and researchers listen more deeply to children - they learn to take part in decision making, to be aware of their needs and wishes and how to be in solidarity with other people's needs. That learning journey is an ongoing process for children and educators, and participation becomes key for justice and equity.
The discussion will be held in English. The slides of the presentation will be in German, there will be summaries in German and questions can of course also be asked in German.
Speakers:
Beth Blue Swadener, PhD (Arizona State University, USA),
Dr. Rebecca L. Hopkins (Senior Lecturer Pūkenga Matua, Auckland University of Technology Te Wānanga Aronui o Tāmaki Makau Rau Aotearoa New Zealand),
Dr. Katrin Macha & Lena Claßen (ISTA Institute for the Situational Approach Berlin)
