Our democratic system is facing various crises, making democratic school development more urgent than ever. In the face of a crisis of democracy, schools should make a fundamental contribution to securing, defending and developing the democratic system by giving pupils the opportunity to participate in all areas of school life. For some time now, school sport has been ascribed a special potential for participation and democracy education in the sports pedagogical and didactic discussion.

In this presentation, the basic model of democracy education through participation empirically determined by Derecik & Barkemeyer will be presented, and a situational approach will be used to identify the specific possibilities of democratic participation for the respective setting. For physical education, discussion groups, open beginnings, games and performance assessment can be named as "places" of democratic education through participation. The model will be put up for discussion and the question raised as to what extent this approach could be beneficial for other subjects and settings beyond sport.

This event will take place exclusively in online format!
