The pilot project 'Zwischenräume. Belebung von Campus und Stadtteil', the seminar 'Soziale Arbeit als urbane Praxis' and the 'Kiosk of Solidarity' invite you to a rally and a discussion with Aju John ('Migrant Worker & Student Canteen') entitled 'Abschiebung statt Abschluss?
15:00 - 19:00 Rally of the 'Kiosk of Solidarity'
17:00 - 18:30 Discussion round in the 'Classroom of the Future' pavilion
Students, mainly from India, are at risk of deportation because their study programs at the private 'IU International University Berlin' are assessed as insufficiently "presence-based" by the State Office for Immigration at short notice. Their economic dependence as submissive workers in Berlin's low-wage sector is now once again being brought into focus by the constant fear of deportation.
The discussion evening sheds light on the increasingly precarious living situation of international students at private universities, who have no access to social housing and food and are forced to work in extremely exploitative jobs - often for cash and without an employment contract.
The event is part of the exhibition 'Caring City. Part 2' in the nGbK pavilion 'Classrooms of the Future'. The exhibition includes contributions on the workers' initiatives 'L'Après M', 'Lieferando Workers Collective', 'Migrant Worker & Student Canteen' and on the residents' initiatives from Marzahn-Hellersdorf 'Bowlingbahn fr5 muss bleiben!', 'Bürgerbeirat Zukunft Tal-Center', 'Helene-Weigel-Platz', 'Marzahn-Ost', 'Schulneubau Auerbacher Ring'.
The exhibition was curated by Eva Hertzsch, Adam Page and Andrea Plöger and can be seen until 27.06.2026.
Wednesday + Saturday 2 - 6 pm. Free admission.
