In recent decades, gender-inclusive and anti-discriminatory language has become increasingly established in society. At the same time, the associated linguistic changes are increasingly met with fierce resistance. When the generic masculine is to be replaced by forms with gender asterisks or racist street names by others, language is sometimes stylized by all means as an untouchable and unchangeable cultural asset.
The workshop provides an introduction to gender-inclusive and anti-discriminatory language. Together, we will discuss the meaning of gender-inclusive and
anti-discriminatory language, the different forms of gender-inclusive and anti-discriminatory language and the problems that can arise when implementing them. We will also look at arguments against gender-inclusive and discrimination-sensitive language.
The workshop is aimed at people who do not yet use gender-sensitive and/or anti-discriminatory language or are unsure about using it. It will be based on a mix of input and (small) group work, with time for discussion and questions. The workshop will be led by Simone Wibbeke.
