Anti-discrimination Commission
Discrimination, exclusion and marginalization do not stop at the doors of the university. Accordingly, the Anti-Discrimination Commission was established by the Academic Senate in accordance with the Anti-Discrimination Statutes of the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin to counteract structural discrimination at the university.
As members of the Anti-Discrimination Commission, we understand discrimination not only as discrimination on an individual level, but also as a structural problem that affects certain groups of prospective students and members of the university and is embedded in power and dominance relations in society as a whole. An intersectional and multidimensional perspective is important to us: Experiences of discrimination are not limited to individual characteristics, but also arise in the interweaving and overlapping of positionalities.
The following tasks are defined in the anti-discrimination statutes:
(3) The anti-discrimination commission shall
a) supports the anti-discrimination and diversity work area in accordance with § 6 para. 2
b) proposes anti-discrimination advisors in accordance with § 11 para. 4 and, if necessary, assists in determining conflicts of interest in accordance with § 11 para. 12
c) may propose members for the Complaints Office to the Academic Senate pursuant to § 13 para. 4
d) examines proposals for the improvement of anti-discrimination measures at ASH Berlin in accordance with § 16 para. 1.
In addition to this, we see it as our task to identify and minimize discrimination risks at ASH Berlin. We would like to contribute to raising awareness of discrimination experiences on a structural and organizational level. For this purpose, we work closely with the working area Intersectional Practice and Transformation (InPuT), Accessibility Commission as well as the Diversity and Social Justice Commission.
For consulting inquiries we would like to refer to the network of anti-discrimination consultants at ASH Berlin. They offer qualified and confidential initial and referral counseling, anonymously if desired:

For complaints involving discrimination and sexualized discrimination and violence, the complaints office can be contacted. This can be reached at beschwerdestelle-antidiskriminierung@ ash-berlin.eu and also accepts anonymous complaints and reports.
