The current political and social situation is characterized by far-reaching changes that affect all areas of our everyday lives. At university, we are confronted with academic and professional performance requirements and various personal and family realities. In order to find a space in which we can still treat each other with respect, we need to know how mental stress arises, how it expresses itself and how we can react appropriately in tense situations. This is where the Mental First Aid workshop comes in.

In the workshop, we will take a look together at the various stresses we are currently exposed to as employees and students at universities and how we can make these visible. One focus will be a power-critical and intersectional examination of the influence that experiences of discrimination and powerlessness have on our mental health.

We will work together to find answers to the following questions

  • How can I support people who find themselves in mentally challenging situations? How do I approach them?
  • How do I recognize an acute crisis situation and how do I act correctly?
  • How do I manage to remain sensitive and attentive to the reality of life and the needs of the person I am dealing with?
  • What is my current personal point of view? And how can I contribute to making the university a safer environment?

The training will be conducted by Hendrik Berg. He is a systemic therapist and consultant and works as a lecturer and anti-discrimination trainer with a focus on diversity, classism and ableism:

The event is a cooperation between alice gesund and the Intersectional Practice and Transformation Unit. Participation is open to all members of the university and is free of charge.
