Selection procedure

Admission figures are published online in the official announcements of ASH Berlin. After the allocation of specialquotas (see below), approximately 25% of the available study places are awarded based on the grade point averageof the higher education entrance qualification (Abitur quota).

Threshold values from recent years can be found in the table below:

Admission Thresholds

Another 25% of study places in the degree programme are allocated based on the waiting time since the applicantobtained their higher education entrance qualification. One waiting semester is counted for each semester that haspassed without being enrolled at a university.

Please note: Periods of study at a university are not counted towards the waiting period. The maximum recognisedwaiting period is ten semesters. If more applicants have reached the full ten waiting semesters than there areavailable study places, the grade point average of the higher education entrance qualification will be used as a decidingfactor. Threshold values from recent years can be found in the table below:

Admission Thresholds

Approximately 50% of available study places are allocated through ASH Berlin’s own selection procedure. Theselection is based on two main criteria:

  • The grade point average of the higher education entrance qualification
  • Study-related competencies

Applicants receive 24 points for a grade of 1.0 in their entrance qualification. For every tenth of a grade point above 1.0, 1 point is deducted.

In addition, applicants can be awarded between 4 and 8 points for documented study-relevant competencies, depending on the type of qualification or experience. (See the statutes on the organization of the university's selection procedure for full details.)

Applicants are ranked according to their total points. Those with higher scores are given priority in the admissionsprocess.

Threshold values from recent years can be found in the table below:

Admission Thresholds

In accordance with Section 6 (1) of the University Admission Ordinance, the following special quotas are deductedfrom the total number of available study places:

  • 5% for international applicants who are not considered equivalent to German applicants
  • 2% for cases of exceptional hardship (hardship quota)
  • 5% for underage applicants (quota for minors)
  • 3% for second-degree applicants (second degree quota)
  • 1% for applicants who are considered to be of public interest under § 10(1) sentence 1 no. 6 BerlHZG(profile quota)
  • 5% for applicants with a higher education entrance qualification under Section 11 BerlHG (quota forprofessionally qualified applicants)

Any study places not taken up under these quotas are reallocated in the general selection procedure.
